Privacy policy

LeaseProof is run by AKAASH VISHAL HAZARIKA (111 Elizabeth St #1825Toronto, ON M5G 1P7). This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and your rights under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

What we collect and why

We don't sell personal information, and we don't use it to make decisions about anyone. We don't check or infer anything about an applicant's race, religion, family status, disability, source of income or any other ground protected by human rights law.
Consent
Before you upload a document, you confirm that the applicant has given you permission to have it checked for authenticity. Landlords are responsible for getting that permission, for example in the rental application form. We send marketing emails only if you tick the consent box, and you can unsubscribe at any time from any email or by contacting us.
How long we keep it
- Reports are deleted automatically 365 days after the check, or right away when you click Delete this report.
- Email addresses given only to receive a report are deleted along with the reports.
- If you unsubscribe, we keep only your address and the date, so we never email you again.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers, who may store information outside Canada (for example in the United States), where it can be subject to local law:
- Hosting: our servers and database.
- Email delivery: to send report links and, if you agreed, marketing emails.
- Stripe: to process payments.
They may use the information only to provide their service to us. Anyone with a report's link can see that report, so share links only with people you trust.
How we protect it
We don't keep uploaded files. Report links are long and random. Our site uses encryption (HTTPS). If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we'll notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or withdraw your consent, by emailing privacy@leaseproof.ca. We'll respond within 30 days. Applicants whose documents were checked can contact us too. If you're not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
